Before you apply: use this CV checklist

Work through these points before you download or send your CV.

  1. Name the role you want in your three-line summary.
  2. Use three short summary lines: who you are, proof of your strengths, and the role you seek.
  3. Start each work bullet with a real result where you have one.
  4. Then state the action you took and the business context.
  5. Use strong verbs. Replace words such as “assisted”, “helped”, “supported”, and “worked on”.
  6. Use only facts, numbers, and claims you can prove in an interview.
  7. Add skills and keywords that fit the role you are applying for.
  8. Keep your strongest work, projects, and achievements near the top.
  9. Use clear headings, exact job titles, and consistent dates.
  10. Keep the CV simple: one column, no tables, photos, logos, text boxes, or coloured design.
  11. Make sure your LinkedIn profile and portfolio tell the same story as your CV.
  12. Read the final CV once for spelling, grammar, dates, and missing details.
